Prepare and Prep Together

Food shop together and encourage your child to help you select vegetables, fruits, and other healthy food choices. At home, involve your child in age-appropriate food prep, such stirring batters or sauces, rinsing fruits, or tearing lettuces.

For our carrot cake oats recipe, kids can help measure dry ingredients, grate carrots (with supervision), and choose and arrange optional toppings. Tasty and flexible, this is a great baby breakfast as well as a fun family food choice.

Ingredients:

1 cup rolled oats

1/2 cup finely grated carrots

1/2 cup unsweetened applesauce

3/4 cup milk of choice

1 tsp vanilla extract

1/2 tsp cinnamon

1 tsp finely grated walnuts

pinch salt (optional)

unsweetened coconut flakes (optional)

hemp hearts (optional)

mini chocolate chips (optional)

 

Directions:

Combine all ingredients together except for the optional ingredients. Scoop into jars with lid and refrigerate overnight. When about to serve, top with optional toppings and enjoy!
