Holiday Marzipan: Healthy Almond Paste!

We all know the holidays mean an abundance of food, sweets, and everything that is unhealthy.

No more donuts and let's ditch the candy canes! Try this healthy alternative: Almond Paste. It is the base for Marzipan a confection made of sugar, honey, and almonds. We've got the ultimate guilt-free snack for you and your little one's sweet tooth!  Perfect texture so they can pick up with their grabease and self-feed!

Marzipan

Good marzipan contains minerals such as calcium, potassium, and magnesium and is also rich in vitamin B and polyunsaturated fatty acids. Replace the sugars with dates for a sugarless recipe.

Ingredients:

  • 100g of Skinned Almonds
  • 3 Dates (pitted) majhul are the juiciest
  • Food coloring (optional)

Instructions:

  • Grain the almonds in a food processor and add the dates until it becomes a solid paste (dough looking).
  • If its too dry and comes apart, add a spoon of coconut oil or maple or honey and mix again.
  • Wrap in plastic and store in the fridge until ready to use.

Need some ideas on what to do with Marzipan? We've got you covered! We've mixed our Marzipan with natural food coloring and molded into various holiday themes! If you can make natural food coloring from veggie juice that's the healthiest way to go. We bought India Tree Nature's Colors (found at Whole Foods).

For pre-made Marzipan (contains sugar) we recommend - Scott's Cakes http://www.scottscakes.com/marzipan.html
