Halloween Yams


1 medium purple yam (ube)

1/2 cup quick oats

1/2 cup water

1/3 cup almond flour

1/2 tsp ground cinnamon

(Optional) maple syrup to taste

whipped cream or greek yogurt

(Optional for older kids) candy eyes*

 *Note: Do not serve candy eyes to small children who are not proficient in chewing hard objects. You can use melted dark chocolate instead.



  1. Place purple yam on a microwave-safe plate with a tablespoon of water. Cover and microwave for about 5 minutes until yam is soft. Mash yam with a fork.
  2. Place quick oats and 1/2 cup water in a microwave-safe bowl. Microwave for 1 minute.
  3. Add mashed yam, almond flour, cinnamon, maple syrup into the bowl and mix thoroughly. Shape mixture into balls.
  4. Put whipped cream or greek yogurt (for less sugar option) in a squeeze bottle. Drizzle whipped cream over balls to create a mummy effect. Place candy eyes.
