International Left-Handers Day!
Posted by SONIA VELASCO
Today is a special day that has been celebrated since 1976 to celebrate the uniqueness of the 10% of the population that are southpaws! The day was celebrated to raise awareness of the advantages and disadvantages that many left-handers face in a predominantly right-handed world.
Did you know that humans are the only species with handedness? Stop me before I turn into Bill Nye the Science Guy.
- Some of the most popular inventors were left-handed like Isaac Newton and Benjamin Franklin.
- Multi-tasking comes naturally to left-handers (I wish I had that ability)!
- Lefties are good artists and usually follow creative careers.
- Lefties have better hearing and are better fighters ...Ummm, have you heard of Mike Tyson (Although he was taught to fight with his right hand. Don’t get me started on this story.)?
Here are some other famous southpaws you might recognize:
- Angelina Jolie
- Tom Cruise
- Goldie Hawn
- Robert DeNiro
- Julia Roberts
Handedness is one of the many milestones your little one will acquire early on in this journey we call life. So if you have a left-handed tiny human, celebrate the uniqueness and the rareness that they harness! Check out this other blog that talks about the many milestones you’ll see along his/her journey!
Happy International Left-Handers Day!
