Ask An Expert: Bib or No Bib?

In collaboration with Melanie Potock.

👶🏻Have you heard about skipping the bib? As a pediatric feeding specialist, I’m not knocking it, but let’s be real. I can’t ask parents to strip down a baby for every single meal. We all need practical strategies that fit into our daily lives.

.
👉🏻Yes, therapists like me love kids to explore foods and get that sensory input on many areas of the body, especially the nerves on the face, forearms, hands and fingers. ❤️ It’s the feel of the food on the skin that tells the brain what to expect before baby brings the food to the mouth.
.
👉🏽So, do both, and be sure to choose a bib that allows for messy play while offering practical, quick & easy clean-up. @grabease makes a comfy bib that not only keeps baby’s outfit clean, but keeps food OUT of the nooks and
crannies on the highchair & the tray too! 🙌🏻
.
👉🏼Most importantly, it allows for free movement to explore & feel the sensations as your babe learns about the joy of food!
.
👉When you do skip the bib, remember these tips:
.
❇️Parent proactively & plan to skip the bib on bath night! 🛁
.
❇️Throw on an apron (I love a huge button-down shirt to protect my clothes) so you can scoop up that
messy baby and put them right in the tub!
.
❇️Remember to stay with baby at all times…you can clean up the kitchen later. No rush – have fun!
